OURMISSION
BADIG was set up in 1998 by local people who came together to pursue a common vision of an inclusive community in Ballymun for people of all ability.
OUR OBJECTIVES ARE:
- To bring together people with disabilities to ensure that their needs are understood and met within the community.
- To empower people with disability to voice their opinions in a structured and democratic way.
- To focus on issues such as accessibility, transport, education and social inclusion.
We are supported by local residents, businesses, community groups and statutory agencies. We are assisted by Dublin City Council and Dublin North West Area Partnership.

Community inclusion means fostering environments where people with disabilities aren’t just accommodated but are celebrated and fully integrated.
It’s not just about ramps and accessible restrooms—it’s about ensuring equal opportunities in employment, education, and social life. Imagine schools that support every learning style, workplaces designed for all abilities, and public spaces that welcome everyone. When we invest in inclusivity, we all rise.
We're people too.
DO NOT TREAT US AS SPECIAL CASES.
Disability is a normal part of everyday life.
We all have varying levels of disability - physically, intellectually, socially.
During our lives, we are all likely to experience reduced ability, even for a short period of time.
In time, our abilities can change - and decline!
Treat us normally.
People with disabilities are part of their community, like everyone else. They dont want special treatment but they also dont want to fight for their basic rights every day.
They simply want to be empowered to live a life like everyone else. People with disabilities often look different. They may be in a wheelchair or rely on a guide dog to help them move around. But they are still just people like everyone else, with the same needs for work and fun, social interaction and participation.
We've come a long way in building a society which is welcomming, inclusive and accomodating.
But there are still things which we can do to make life easier for everyone.
Things that concern us.
People with disabilities find it more difficult when there are obstacles blocking pathways and access points in their vicinity, for example:
..when able persons use parking spaces which are reserved for persons exclusively with disabilities or when cars are parked on pavements and crossing areas. It is not easy to find parking spaces in Dublin, however, parking a car in a non designated area can severely impact the progress and safety of pedestrians, especially people with disabilities.
..when objects are placed on public pavements and walking places that most people can negotiate without difficulty, can impede progress or even place persons with disabilities in danger, for example wheel bins, boxes, bricks or furniture. These obstacles are dangerous to wheelchair users, the vision impaired as well as parents with pushchairs and the elderly.
